Fraud Alert

Jen: 106
NOTE: This only affects US residents and who have bank accounts.

If you get a call from this number 315-724-4022, it's a fraud. Was told my debit card was canceled and a new one was issued and mailed. If I didn't get it to call the number on the back, and claimed to be the "credit union", non-specific branch, of which I do have an account with.

I figured it was a fraud after making a small purchase of a steam game on sale, 89 cents, and that the transaction went through perfectly. Otherwise I would've gotten a pop-up that the numbers on the card was invalid or something.

Did a background check on the number, gotten a massive result of a different branch, instead of Credit Union was a Bank (there is a difference), and located in NY.

Side Note: I ask that you not give me Jen for this.

Ty for the heads up! Of course, scammers often use a specific phone number only for a brief period of time. I imagine they do this to keep evading anyone seeking to track them down, and to evade programs that already have them blocked.

I often find myself screening my calls by googling unfamiliar numbers instead of answering them immediately. Sometimes a regular search reveals it to be spam or a scam outright. Other times going a step further using Google Maps reveals the call to originate from places such as a ski lodge on the opposite side of the country. I suddenly can't recall if this works for numbers outside USA.

At least in my situation, most of the people that call me I already know and have their number labeled in my address book, or they would go to the effort of leaving a voice message or text message.

Always check the unknown phone numbers. 315-724-4022 has been reported to the federal agencies for so many times!

The general rule of thumb I have is that it's a number that I don't know or recognize, I never answer it. Just let it ring or decline the answer.
