A note to Kickstarter supporters

I've been noticing a trend with people I've been wanting to get to participate in the Kickstarter, and it comes down to two things; either people don't have the money to give, or they look at the numbers and are convinced that the game will not succeed.

Now, the first of these is simple. It's very recent after the Holiday season and people just don't have the fortitude of bank account to toss money at a game. Because of this for the most part it's something we cant entirely help, butt he second one is a different story.

As I've gone around to try and garner support, people who look at the Kickstart, specifically the numbers, are unsure of the success of the project and seem unwilling to join, and I think this is for two reasons.

1) Not everyone knows how Kickstarter works. Quite a few people had to have their mind eased by me explaining just how the system functions and how their commitment isn't a loss if the project falls short of it's goal. Many people seem convinced that Right Brain and the devs will keep all money pledged regardless of outcome, and while I would gladly give them mine to keep win or lose, most aren't. However, a few people loosened their purse-strings and pitched in.

2) People aren't convinced by the numbers. I believe as of me posting this we are at 22% of the goal, and while that is a good start, especially for the time of year when the Kickstarter campaign launched, it doesn't bring much hope to people. Quite simply, another 100,000 is a daunting goal. the fact remains though that we can do it. Looking through the numbers we have a lot of people who have put down sizable amounts to get this game going. This is great, but lets not forget the contributions of the many who hover in the tens rather than hundreds or thousands. Every big chunk is a victory for the campaign, but a lot of people aren't comfortable with emptying so much cash for this game.

If your out there trying to gain support, fight for those small wins first. the 5s, 25s, 50s... those add up. while a few of us have shelled out a lot for big rewards and large chunks of support, the rest are content to pitch in spare change, and that's good! We need all the help we can get. and hey, if you manage to save up a bit, whose to say you cant up your contribution a bit more later? Antilia is a game targeted towards a large player base, so if we can get a bunch of small contributions, that's just as good as those brave few who sprung for the Island Discovery packs and such.

I guess what i'm trying to say is that this campaign wont succeed thanks to one hero who swoops in like Batman and reigns $100s over the masses (I kid, Bruce would never do that), but it WILL be won by the support of many making small donations. so don't be afraid to ask people to just make a small contribution. Just don't push them for it. I think you'd be surprised where that gets us.

As a note to the devs, I'd love to see more streams, and maybe actually get in on one to watch. the Twitch recordings have been very informative and the things you talk about and show in them has impressed quite a few of my friends who originally were unsure of the game.

Yeah I have seen many people saying they want to see how the antilia kickstarter goes before they will back (more). The problem with that kind of thought process is that it is causing a sort of downwards spiral. Even when people know that they can't lose money if the project doesn't reach the budget goal, there is this natural tendency of not wanting to be associated with something that is not succesfull.

So come on everyone! No need to wait. Help give others trust in this project by backing now. Even if you can't back your desired amount now, backing 5 dollars (or even 1) will at least make the number of backers go up and make the project seem more alive.

My real reason for not donating yet is because I don't know how much money I will have at the end of the month for the next month. But im doing my best to promote it in the mean time. I have an ad posted on the site I roleplay at so whenever I post Antilia shows up and I view Antilias Indiedb page at least once a day hopefully bringing up its popularity. I guess what im saying is there are little things you can do to help if you can't donate.

As far as streams go, there's another scheduled on the 7th, a little under 3 days from now. They've been pretty frequent thankfully, listed in the "Upcoming Events" section of the main page.

I'd wanna say something more deep, but I just woke up and that's totally not happening XD

I tried all my resources to share, as always only to deaf ears... only thing I can do that is reliable is just pledge. Did that on day one and been able to increase it to my originally planned amount.

Everything helps, Sly, but if you can even spark someone's interest it's a win. I wont push you to go back and pester people though

Well that's the thing, I don't know if it sparked interest from my end or not. I don't get any feedback what so ever, let alone any credit... far as I know, my sources only find interest if I'm back in college, doing something productive in real life, or starting a relationship and sharing pictures of new borns for the whole internet to see... dawns the question why I have a FB in the first place...
