Should we Rebuild Antilia's Forum Community?

In the Developer's Meeting on August 23rd I proposed some changes for the future of Antilia's website, including the suggestion that the forums here are no longer being used. I'll admit that this was largely due to my own prioritization on the project - posting updates on the website have admittedly been of a lower priority compared with YouTube and Discord.

The response to this suggestion has been unsurprisingly mixed. I had expected some disappointment at the symbolic "passing of an era" with the suggestion - and I admittedly share a lot of that sentiment. While many community members have moved to Discord, I feel relying strictly on the feedback I get there could be potentially misleading.

Many of the points raised are not really argued - I agree entirely that the forums would be much more active if/when the game is available to play again. It is also fair to observe that if the latest news for Antilia is first announced on YouTube and Discord - then it is fair to assume that people interested in the latest news will follow on those platforms.

We don't have to decide today, but we are approaching a point in the project where I will need to refresh the website. When I do so I'll need to decide - Keep the forums, clean & re-structure the forums, or remove them.

It is easy to look at this from the perspective of what is working right now without looking positively toward the future.

I'd like to hear more thoughts from the Antilia community on this, and will try to spread a link to this thread across our various social platforms and consider everyone's responses. Is everyone "comfortable" on their social media platform of choice such that the forums are no longer needed? Is there a specific direction we could take with the forums (such as making them the "creative hub" for mods and development) that would kindle a new community here, or has social media made these forums completely unnecessary?

I posted this yesterday on discord, and thought I should share my thoughts over here.

The way I see it, the forums on the site would be a centralized hub where the community would discuss and share things related to the game. Although there are several websites where you can talk about this, not everyone would be using those places, and unless the site doesn't directly those sites, those things shared on there might be missed by others, practically fragmenting the community. With some sort of offical antilia forum on the site, it would be better to help organize the community together, as well as have a reliable place to have information given out, just in case something were to happen to one of these offsite communities.

I think a forum restructure would be beneficial to the community. Once the game is released, the forums will be better utilized. It's good to have alternative media to post news on, but having a strong forum will keep the community living longer. Removing the forums would be a disaster once the game is released. I think it's essential to have a forum so people can report bugs or abuse. Without it, the only alternative is to have an email set up for bugs/abuse and it would be less manageable in my opinion. The second reason I think we should keep/revamp the forum is due to the search-ability of common glitches and their fixes. If one thread is created about a glitch, and we find a solution to said glitch, then others can look back to that thread for guidance on how to fix it. I think it would be rather tedious to have to respond to 10-20 emails for the same issue when you could have a thread that explains the problem.

Two cents:
-I would probably want the forums left-as-is and ignored for the moment; it doesn't seem like something immediately important to the development of the game unless it is what is being used to coordinate it. I'd probably see remodeling them as a distraction, and maybe the destruction of past community history.
-I don't look at the forums often enough, but I consider it easier to find, hold and follow an organized conversation on the forums, compared to Discord. In Discord, everything eventually scrolls out of view and requires real digging to catch up, and the format is often peppered with material off-topic to the game.
-A bigger boost to the community would probably occur when the game is in a publicly playable state again. Once it's playable again, it's especially easier to tell friends and acquaintances "See this? I'm excited about this! You can try it!"
-Doing a face-lift of the forums in preparation for them being more useful SOMEDAY may be premature given the timescale of Antilia's development. IE, I'm not sure how much activity the forum's Jen feature has had or how often it has been a point of interest, and was one similar facelift.

I need to catch up badly! I'll probably find myself using both the forum and Discord, heh

I tend to avoid Discord and other social media of that nature, so I would definitely prefer to see the forums retained in some form.

I'd keep the forums, but definitely restructure them.

I use Discord for mainly other things.

The thing that the forums need right now is a mobile compatible page so that it will be easier to access from anywhere
