New Antilia Development Video Series

In April I started capturing footage for a new video series, and at last the first video is finally here!

This video is a little rough in the editing, as when I started capturing footage in April I was thinking this would be something more along the lines of a "development highlights" video. As the month progressed and I started receiving feedback the video changed to be a bit more general, including announcements and new lore information. It took a bit of extra effort getting this video out the door, but in the process I've re-acquainted myself with video production and looking forward to improving these as I create more videos.

There are a few important announcements in this video, so for the sake of those who cannot currently view the video I will summarize them here:
  • We would like to build Antilia as an 'episodic' or expansion-pack style game, which would allow us to produce a smaller initial game sooner, then grow the size of the world and number of stories over time.

  • The story of the initial release will be that of how the Taipii left Orliia and arrived on Antilia.

  • (It is also hinted/revealed that Antilia will allow players to create multiple characters and switch between which character you are currently controlling. This is a feature we need for story mode, so it makes sense to just make it a game-wide feature.)

Hi

Great update. Though I think the volume for the video might have been a tad low. Was nice to see how things are progressing along with the old Antilia MMO footage you tossed in. That lore was great too. Frankly, the idea of making Antilia episodic makes sense. Interested to see how that plays out.

Perhaps in the next video or so you could show off not only more of the lore (still a sucker for that) but perhaps some of the world building aspects and programs (like more of the Toi Studio progress) that you've worked on in the past year.

Also, was it just me or was that a new piece of music I heard in the background while you were in the Editors?

(loved your playful jab at Loko in that game footage too!)

Was it? I compared it to a few other YouTube videos while editing, but it did seem quiet.

I'm entertaining the idea that in a future episode I might write a bit of story and have it read in the video. I always find it easier to explore and describe the world of Forra through the eyes of a character than flat-out trying to explain it.

I didn't describe the reasons why as well as I could have - making it more 'episodic' allows us to explore the world across time, which is something I'd like to do. Expanding the world as we tell the stories is just practical.

I didn't want the technical section to drag on too long, it felt about right at that length. I might make some separate videos where I am working in the editor though. They could serve as a starting point for people interested in modding down the road.

I think there were two new pieces, one is a variation that may be difficult to distinguish from the original. The other longer piece (which I used in the lore section) is one of my favorites. The song has inspired a bit of story I intend to use.

PS: Sorry I suddenly dropped from steam on you earlier - I was obviously having connection issues and then got busy afterwards.

My brain exploded when you applied that texture to the map @8:20 that caused all the islands to appear.

I like this idea.

This sounds like it could just be a video all by itself if it's a good length too. Also, throwing ideas out there, maybe you could get the community to read it out if there's an interest? Voice acting and the like.

Would it be possible for you to elaborate more on the new direction the game is taking? Also another separate question I have is what kind of business model will this game's episodes have?

As for the game's direction, is there something in particular you are interested in?

In the next episode, I'll also try to summarize my thoughts on pricing (obviously subject to change, but I can at least share my current thoughts).
