Sigh... BitTorrent is controversially known for piracy means and most forums delete any threads about it or suggestions to use it (or move it to a trash-forum where people can still view it). It is best that if you suggestion something that is controversial to include, not later or have other people fill in the blanks for you, but at that moment in that same post before posting, explain why it's a good idea and who uses it for such good means as you may imply; even if it means writing it like an Essay. Otherwise you'll just get glared at and sent to the King Iichii pit. Besides, what would prevent users using it to pirate the files themselves from BitTorrent?

That aside, it's best to really think and plan how to present such ideas. Thankfully this commute handled that suggestion better than other forums I've been to, including the mods. They would usually single that person out and the mods would torment and scold them without much as a little remorse for treating the user like they was a terrorist.

@Harm: I only voice chat people in the steam group. Although not sure why you decided to bring that up in this thread...

All of that a side... have an estimate when the social event may be up? Next weekend (Jan 9th - 10th) perhaps?

You can't prevent piracy or hacking totally, but you can fight it with clever programming, the problem with that of course is making things more complex. Games that are developed to be low lag tend to be more client-based and they are easier to hack. Games that are made harder to hack tend to be more laggy. I like games that find the right balance of these things because I don't like too much lag or too much hacking, especially in PvP where things like aim-bots and info hacks are a PITA (Pain In The A_ _.)

BitTorrent is good for distributing things if the programmer cannot afford a server than can handle that. I tend to prefer direct downloads if I can, even if it takes much longer, just for the increased security. Although, I probably should point out that for BitTorrent to work, multiple people have to be seeding the file all the time, otherwise it doesn't work.
