New Vulan Character and a Revisit

Hot on the heals of the first lupan character earlier this month, we're ready to display our first male character, this time a vulan:

We've been working on his geometry for a while now, and Alex (Yatra) has once again done a wonderful job bringing things to life with texture. Here is another shot, this time of just the upper body:

I really like the way he turned out, and I can't wait to see the next one.

This time, last year...


Back in May, 2010, I had just completed the initial texture-painting features for Antilia's mesh editor, and I demonstrated it with a quick go at modeling a jidou. The Jidou made his first appearance in a lore post, and then reappeared in the official roleplaying game.

While stuck between projects, Alex decided to finish our favorite friendly critter off - completing his body mesh and texturing him as well:

Perhaps we'll see him following players around in-game sooner, rather than later...

Technical Developments


In addition to the new meshes, the new server continues to make progress in preparation for the upcoming alpha testing. I've created a new, very robust system for combing mesh parts together into single, optimized meshes, as well as blending multiple textures together to save rendering fill-rate and memory. The system has also designed with equipment items in mind - so when inventory is implemented, we'll immediately be able to add new clothing sets.

I plan to continue making progress on the new server and changes to the client through to around mid-June, after which we should start seeing some new features in the client. There is still quite a bit of work to be done, so unfortunately I can't yet set a date for when testing will begin. It is coming, though.

New Lore Wiki Is Up!


In case you missed the announcement last Saturday, Antilia now has an Official Lore Wiki. Everyone is invited to read through and ask new questions about the lore on the Questions for Expanding Lore page. I'll be watching the page, and taking some time to answer questions frequently.
